Artist Statement
I have always had a strong pull to the outdoors, so it wasn't surprising to find myself creating pottery using leaves, pine needles, found objects and sea glass. I enjoy using different mediums in my work. I find myself in a calm and peaceful space when I am creating either pottery or jewelry. There is a synergy that always surprises me in the finished piece.
Zia Pottery
I use both low and high fire clays and firing methods. Each piece is brushed with three to five coats of glaze insuring durability. Sometimes the colors overlap, which once fired brings out subtle hues. All products are lead-free and non-toxic.
Zia Jewelry
I metalsmith many of my own clasps, pendants, and links. I use sterling silver, copper, semi-precious stones, pearls, wood beads and found objects. My designs are often inspired by a color or image that takes form as I work with my materials.
